 Our 1st Trainer Scholarship Award Winner is Julie Marzec;  Julie served as an athletic trainer all 4 years.   In addition to trainer, Julie was involved in several extra-curriculars - highlighted by her musical talent - 4 years in the choir, where she held a vice-president role and is currently a member of this years'  prestigious Merples singing ensemble.  Julie's contributions in community service were numerous,   as she worked in the big sister program, meals-on-wheels and served as a tutor for several organizations.  All of this - while maintaining a 3.69 GPA.   Julie's plans to further her studies and athletic training this fall at the University of Cincinnati.  Congratulations, Julie, on your award  !!

 Our cheerleader scholarship recipient is Taylor Schmidt. Taylor's resume from her high school years is impressive.   In addition to being a cheerleader all 4 years and varsity captain for  2 years, Taylor was involved in Student Council all 4 years, the Yearbook, Math & Science and French Clubs.  She was named to the National Honor Society and has accumulated  a 4.2 cumulative GPA.   Taylor plans to further her studies at the University of Michigan. Our 2nd Football scholarship recipient is Nick Firment.     Nick had an outstanding high school career as a high performing student, leader and athlete - - involving himself in many extra-curricular activities over the course of 4 years.  4 year member of the Shoreman Football and Basketball teams - where he served both teams as captain this past year.  Spanish Club, National Honors Society, and a leader in the Student Anchors Network – where community service was the focus.   Nick was a great example to all his teammates, as he was all about hard work, determination & a great attitude - while maintaining a 3.98 GPA.     Nick's plan for the future involves studying in the financial field at the Ohio State University.  Congratulations, NIck!

 Our second trainer scholarship recipient is Jena Parker. Jena was a three-year football trainer, helping keep the Shoremen ready to excel on the field.  She excels herself as a four-year member of the track team and was named second team All-SWC as a Junior.  Jena journeyed to New Orleans with her church youth group to help in the hurricane relief efforts.  She’s a strong student, too, accumulating a 3.859 GPA during her four years at ALHS. Please join us in congratulating Julie on her award! 

Our 1st Football Scholarship Award winner is Sam Brown.  Sam was a two year varsity letterman and was named Captain of this past years SWC Championship team. Sam was named on several post-season all-star teams -  with 1st Team SWC, 1st Team Lorain County and 2nd team All-District.  Sam was also a leader in the community, as he served meals to the homeless and was a class leader in collecting shoes for the poor  the past 2 years. Sam intends to study criminal justice at Ohio University in the fall.  Congratulations Sam on your Award !

Our third football scholarship goes to Sean Oxley. After seeing quite a bit of action at defensive end as a junior, Sean was elected a captain by his teammates and started at both DE and tight end as a senior. His post season awards include first team All-SWC and All-County as well as second team All-district honors.  Sean is an all-star in the classroom too, ranked fourth in his class with a 4.341 GPA.  He will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall. Please join us in congratulating Sean Oxley.

Our 4th Football Scholarship Award Winner is Joe Prendergast;  Joe was a 3 year member of the Shoremen soccer team who committed to varsity football team his senior year.  The football team reaped the benefits, as Joe performed at a very high level as a 1st year Kicker for the football team and was named 1st Team All Lorain County.  Joe also served meals at the local homeless shelter, collected shoes and socks for our annual community service, and is an annual volunteer basketball referee for our Avon Lake Youth Basketball Program.   Joe is very active in the Spanish Club and looks forward to furthering his studies at LCC and the Ohio State University in the coming years.  Please join us in congratulating Joe Prendergast!

Our final Scholarship recipient is Ryan Scherer.  Ryan is a 2 year letterman in football.  This past year his performance on the gridiron earned him 1st Team SWC, All County, All District and All State Honors.  Ryan is also a 3 year letterman in track and a Captain! All of these athletic awards pale in comparison to the work Ryan puts into the classroom.  He is currently ranked 14th in his class with an outstanding 4.25 GPA.  Ryan has volunteered with the Special Olympics and has helped serve meals to the homeless.  Ryan will attend Penn State University and play football for Joe Paterno. Congratulations Ryan Scherer on your award!
